This page explains what personal information LangSo collects, why, who helps us process it, and how you can see, change or delete it.
Who is responsible
LangSo (Language Society), run by Bahraleloom Abdalrahem, is responsible for your personal information on langso.org. Contact: support@langso.org.
What we collect and why
| What | Why we use it |
|---|---|
| Name, username, email address and password | To create your account, sign you in and contact you about your learning. Passwords are stored encrypted (hashed); we cannot read them. |
| Language preference | To show the site in Arabic or English. |
| Level test answers and results | To estimate your level and recommend a programme. |
| Enrolments, progress and quiz answers | To run your courses, show your progress and issue certificates. |
| WhatsApp number or Telegram username (paid programmes, or if you ask for personal feedback after the level test) | So your teacher can arrange your speaking check and session times, or send you the feedback you asked for. |
| Purchase details from Creem: name, email, programme, amount and payment status | To give you access to what you bought and to handle refunds. We never receive your card number. |
| Messages you send us | To answer you. |
| Technical data: IP address, browser and server logs | To keep the site secure and working. |
Services that help us
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising. We share it only with the services we need to run LangSo:
| Service | What it does for us |
|---|---|
| Creem | Processes payments, subscriptions and refunds as merchant of record. It receives your payment details directly. |
| Hetzner | Hosts the servers that run this site and store your account. |
| Backblaze | Stores our nightly backups, so your account can be restored if something fails. |
| Brevo | Sends our emails, such as password resets. |
| Telegram | Delivers private alerts to the LangSo team when you finish the level test or join a programme (your name, email, level and test answers, and your WhatsApp number or Telegram username when you gave it to us). |
| Zoom and WhatsApp | Live sessions run on Zoom, and teachers contact you on WhatsApp. Your use of these apps is also covered by their own privacy policies. |
We may also share information if the law requires it.
Cookies
We use only the cookies the site needs to work: to keep you signed in, protect forms from misuse and remember your language. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
- Account and learning data: while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete it within 30 days. Copies in backups are overwritten over the following weeks.
- Purchase records: kept as long as tax and accounting rules require, even after an account is deleted.
- Server logs: kept for a short time for security.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, get a copy, or have it deleted. You can also object to how we use it. Email support@langso.org from your account email and we will reply within 30 days. You can change your name and email yourself in your account settings.
If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Security
The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are stored hashed, and access to learner data is limited to the LangSo team. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we will tell you.
Children
Learners under 18 need a parent’s or guardian’s permission to use LangSo. If you believe a child has given us information without permission, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If the change is important, we will tell you by email.
